We extend an enthusiastic welcome to you! This blog is to serve parents, families and friends of the Spain Barcelona missionaries.
In the blog you will be able to read about our history, our unique vocabulary, suggestions for newly called missionaries, and our overall mission vision. About Us
The Spain Barcelona Mission extends from Santander on the Bay of Biscay (on the Atlantic Ocean) to Valencia on the Mediterranean, and includes the islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. Major cities include Barcelona, Bilbao, Burgos, Santander, San Sebastian, Pamplona, Girona, Tarragona, Valencia, Zaragoza, and Palma de Mallorca. It also includes the country of Andorra in the Pyrenees. About 14 million people live within the boundaries of the mission.
The mission includes three distinct languages and two additional dialects: Spanish, Catalan (and its derivatives, Valenciano and Mallorquin), and Basque. However, church services and missionary work are all conducted in Spanish.
Missionaries serving in the Spain Barcelona Mission can expect to baptize regularly. It is possible to baptize weekly in this mission. Spain is entering a great "second harvest" (the first great harvest was in the 1970s), and missionary work here is more like South America than northern Europe.

Origin of our Nickname-El Faro
“El Faro” means lighthouse in Spanish. Our nickname arose after a visit from Elder F. Burton Howard who was serving as the Europe West Area president at the time. After touring the mission and witnessing the success the mission was having as well as its obedient, hardworking missionaries, he is reported to have said, “this mission is like a lighthouse -El Faro- for the Europe area.” The name stuck and we carry the wonderful legacy of El Faro today. This logo was created by one of our El Faro missionaries, Sister Lofgran. The anchor symbolizes that we are anchored in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The waves represent the Savior calming the sea and the peace that comes as we follow His teachings and example. The light emanating from El Faro, of course, represents the light of Chirst.

Looks like fun! I wondered if you could take pictures of all of the Zone Conferences this month? We have missed seeing them the past couple of months. It's such a great way to stay a little connected to our missionaries. But especially during this special month of December - or even handing out the chocolates. Just a possible suggestion for you all who work so hard in leading and guiding our children. Thank you for all you do!
